Peter Johnson Laboratories is an ISO/IEC 17025 SANAS accredited, independent, boutique laboratory based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, that offers a range of testing across different industries. It is safe to say we are a women-owned-and-managed entity, are all “proudly South African” and 100% self-funded.
PJL became the “offspring” of J Muller Laboratories (Pty) Ltd in 2016. J Mullers was a well-established laboratory that was founded in 1925.
Sometime around 1980 Peter Johnson purchased the laboratory from Dudley Harris. At the time the lab was situated in Beach Road, Woodstock and soon thereafter, moved the premises to Marine Drive, Paarden Eiland, where they remained until December 2015, when the business liquidated.
His daughter, Genevieve Michel, purchased the assets from the liquidators and set up a new lab in Montague Gardens so that Peter could continue working and sustain jobs for some of the long serving employees.
PJL is registered as a close corporation. After Peter Johnson’s passing in 2017, Annalize Labuschagne joined the business in October 2017 and took over the helm as Operations / Laboratory Manager. Annalize holds a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (cum laude) from CPUT (1998) as well as a BSc Microbiology (cum laude) from UNISA (2008) and has over 20 years’ experience working in independent SANAS accredited laboratories, including working under Peter Johnson.
Genevieve Michel started her career in the food industry, including working for the laboratory before going to Hotel School. She spent 17 years in the contract catering industry before moving into the hotel industry as a trainer and assessor. In 2004 she joined a highly respected recruitment consultancy that specializes in senior executive and academic appointments in higher education institutions.
